The small amount of test time is quite hectic and stressful.
It helped in detecting the cones of the Formula Student track and more importantly estimating their location. For EUFS, the LiDAR sensor provided by sponsors Mapix Technologies proved vital. The car must process its surroundings in real time. Ignat Georgiev EUFS Autonomous Manager commented, “The hardest part of the challenge is that before the event the host car cannot have any data about the track. Support from Mapix technologiesĪlthough the IMechE provided the drone vehicle, students had to equip it with their own sensors in order to complete the dynamic events. They were awarded overall winners of FS-AI. And for the 2019 competition the Edinburgh University Formula Student (EUFS) team won the Track Drive event and also won the design presentation. Formula Student Artificial Intelligence (FS-AI) events include acceleration, sprint and tracks drives. In 2018 the autonomous part of the competition was added to the competition. Over 100 university teams travel to Silverstone in July to compete in both static and dynamic events. The Formula Student competition is run by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). The Edinburgh University Formula Student team, sponsored by Mapix technologies have won the autonomous challenge for the second year running.
